Additional Admission Requirements: | *A Course-by-Course Transcript Evaluation by WES/ECE for applicants who completed or are completing a degree at an institution outside of the US or Canada *Pre-Screening Materials All applicants to the Music Therapy program are required to submit pre-screening materials to the portfolio section of the online application. Please upload videos of yourself to the portfolio section of your online application playing a few brief pieces on your primary instrument that show the range of your musicality. These can be short compositions or excerpts from longer works. In addition, on your primary instrument please improvise on a theme or emotion and afterwards discuss your improvisation on the recording. We would also like you to play both piano and guitar and accompany yourself singing on both instruments. If possible, choose songs to play in a few different styles. While you can have some latitude in the length of what you play, the total time of the recording should be no more than 30 minutes. We would like you to talk about yourself on the recording: Tell us about your music background and professional experience. Please answer the following questions as well: Why are you interested in music therapy? Why would you like to study music therapy at NYU specifically? Please include any other information about yourself that you would like to share with us. *Auditions & Interview A select number of applicants will be invited to interview and audition with Music Therapy faculty and students. Applicants invited to interview and audition will be notified in early February. The interview and audition will be an hour-long process with two NYU Music Therapy faculty. Due to public health measures, the audition and interview will be held online using the Zoom platform. You will receive a Zoom invitation and the specific time of your interview one week prior to the audition. Please be sure to inform us what time zone you will be in on the day of the audition. All times given to you will be in Eastern Standard Time, the timezone of New York City. Candidates should prepare to play their major instrument, piano, and guitar. Candidates will be asked to demonstrate their technical ability, expressive range, and familiarity with different musical styles with each of these instruments. Ability to sight-read, improvise, and play by ear are all evaluated during the audition. Please provide an email to which the material to be sight read can be sent at the beginning of your interview. Candidates will also be asked to sing and accompany themselves on a harmonic instrument.
